Default Newbie with A/C Question

I just bought my first Corvette. It is a 1991, convertible, with automatic temp control. The a/c works, and blows cold but not out of the dash vents. Is this a common problem? Vacuum issue? Any Ideas? I have not picked the car up yet, I went and test drove it a few days ago. So if you need more info, I will have it home tomorrow. Thanks in advance, Kim

Could be a vacuum problem with the source vacuum or the programmer which controls the vacuum.
Any control of defogger vent ?

I will post more tomorrow evening, will check it out on the way home. Hoping for a vacuum problem and not a programmer problem, $$$$$, LOL Kim

Very well could be the control module contacts need cleaning. Not a hard fix. There is a fairly new thread about this on the Forum. Just did mine and everything works great. Cost = $0

Could be the vacuum check valve in the engine compartment. Broken check valve can cause the cruise to be inop also.

Default AC issues

Welcome to the Forum, Kim!

The other replies have you on the right track. My issue with my 18 month old '93 is that the blend door seems stuck. So my vents work great as long as you want hot air!!

Best of luck getting your vent issue resolved. Don't forget to post some pictures!!

Hello All,
I picked her up yesterday and brought her home, about 70 miles. Runs and drives great. I played with the A/C on the drive. Air blows cold, but no matter what position the programmer is in the air mostly come out the defrost with a little out the floor (bi-level perhaps). Cruise Control works perfect. Not looking foward to going under dash LOL. I will clean her up today and take some pictures to post. I have a brake issue to post later also. Thanks all and I am excited!! Kim

my 90 did the same thing and it turned out to be the programmer. I bought one on ebay and it solved the problem.

Thanks,
Camelotian posted to clean the contacts in the control module. I want to try this first after visually looking under the dash, LOL. Question is where is this module? Thanks, Kim

OK, I think or at least hope I found my problem. I found a vacuum line, (hard plastic) interwined with wiring coming out of the firewall on the passenger side. Looks like it goes up to the programmer. I assume it comes from the plenum or a tee or check valve. With the engine running, there is no vacuum on it. My question is where exactly does this line connect to on the engine side. I can not see it entering the interior. Tomorrow I will connect it to a hand vacuum pump and then see if my vents work right. I am hoping they will. Thanks again, Kim

there is a check valve that fails I believe it's on the passenger side.Do a search as it has been discussed and a picture of the valve is shown.

The vacuum check valve is next to the distributor on the driver's side. It goes inside the car to control the blend doors and to the cruise control. That's why the question was asked about the cruise control working.

Default 96 LT4 air conditioner

My 96 started this summer not blowing air conditioning through the vents on initial use. About 10 minutes of driving, this changes and the air conidtioning is coming out of the vents. I have not tried to trouble shoot the problem since it will still blow air out the vents and the air conditioner works.

Thanks to everyone!! I have found the problem. It appears at one time the vacuum check valve broke, and the PO removed it and the tee and bypassed the hose to the a/c. I installed a tee, re-connected the hose, and it all works as it should. I will need to find a check valve and install it, but for now it is much better. Thanks again for all your help. Kim
