Default Double check your timing, It makes a big difference !!!

I checked my timing on my 88 vette and it was 2-4 deg. Bumped it up to 8 deg. and now the car runs 100 times better. More throttle response, faster and higher revving, smooter idle and power beyong belief now... Double check yours after every tune up.... :D

diddo...same over hear....not quite sure how....

I thought the computer regulates all this? If I turn the distributor over some won't the computer compensate for the small couple of degree's?

My timing was so far off last week that I had major pre det., but now I can run all my gears to the max with no chattery valves. Tons of L98 torque too.

I don't believe you have to worry about your timing with the Optispark. Computer takes care of adjustments realtime.

All us LT1/LT4 types don't have this adjustment. ECM controls spark timing. :seeya

You could advance your cam if you wanted to. But that's a real PITA.

is my car that different than the opti-spark cars? my timing is controlled by the ECM also, but all you do is disconnect it and then you can set your base timing...

The only way to adjust the timing in an OPTI-Spark car is to have the timing added into the chip. Some custom programming is in order if thats the case.

As for the L98's I usually run mine at 10deg and have great results.

The Opti unit is keyed to a certain position on the timing cover. Therefore it is immobile. The L98's distributor can be moved independently of the rotor and therefore can be adjusted advanced or retarded at will simply by moving the distributor housing. Been that way for a long long time. Also, the LT1 hub is not keyed so what would you measure the timing against??

Mine is at 3. On the low side...but it pulls nicely. I have tried 5-6 and it had a little ping. Could be a lot of timing in the chip or my CR of 11:1.

I'm happy with it at 3.

JD, all you advance is built into your chip. Thats why your base timing seems so low. LPE does most of their chips that way.
