My LCD display has died and needs to be replaced. It's a C4 1985 with 55K miles and is completely stock. The question is twofold if I replace it with another used one from a different year what are the consequences?
I had a freelance GM Tech check out the electrical system and he told me that a new(er) LCD unit would need to be 'flashed' by the dealer.
I need some input about putting in a new or used unit.
Thanks

Probably why he's "freelance"! Nothing to flash in an '84-'89 cluster. Worst case, you get one that doesn't have Cruise Control and you lose your Cruise. If you don't currently have cruise, there really is nothing to swapping in a new or used cluster. Just swap your odometer into the replacement cluster and you're back in business.
