Default knock counts - realistically what are you guys getting?

i know i know , this should be in the scan and tune section... but it is dead over there!

realistically though, what should a person have for a fresh tune?

the first tune file I had got me one or two knock counts every 10 minutes or so...

now I'm on a new one, after pulling more spark advance out... and i am getting them every 15 seconds. what gives?

Lean ? Low octane gas ? I never get knocks unless my tires are spinning. Then I get about 15 and it stops as soon as the car hooks. I am running 104 octane though.

hmm... maybe this... I just filled up with a fresh tank from quick trip and it is knocking every 10-15 seconds with 91 octane.

i have tried pulling a few degrees (2 - 3) out across in the main spark advance table where i am getting knock and it only got worse.

only thing different is it is now colder out side and raining when i tested it last.

Today's gasoline is not as good as the 1990's.

Knock counts happen often on EFI modern performance cars & especially on performance builds with today's pump gas.

so are you saying that one every minute or so is "oK"?

i know one every 5-10 seconds is too much obviously i need to go to previous burn.. but 20 knock counts on a 20 minute drive is ok?

i just want this engine to last another 100,000 or 150,000 miles assuming i keep it under 4500rpm or so...

I can't get the VE tables to tune correctly at 3000rpm and 30% throttle, ... i aint ever going to take it to WOT...

it occurs around 1800-2200rpm and 55-60kpa range while doing normal daily around traffic driving. with me or my gf driving it. i get one about every 15 seconds in second gear just cruising around town. trying to figure out how to eliminate it.

Check if you are getting them also when decelerating. If yes then they are false knocks. Start by measuring your ignition wires for a bad wire. I had a false knock for long time before I figured it was caused by a single ign. wire.

EDIT: I get no knock counts cold or hot.

My knock counts more then doubled when I installed a high performance Accel Ignition control module, switched back to stock module and they dropped .You should get a few knock counts when you first start the car , mine is somewhere around 10 or 12 at startup. Then when I punch the gas for a datalog run, or a WOT run I may get 1 to 3 as the rpms go up..But for normal driving around town I may get one every once in awhile but not much more. The important thing is if the ecm pulls the timing when knock occurs, if it doesn't you can have real problems... .WW
