Another job on my list for my 85 C5 was to check the odometer while the display was out for the lens upgrade.
In my case all was working well except for the odometer, no counting up of distance. Nice if you want to keep the reading low, but not a true reading and could cause issues for the local (NZ) regulations.
Now I have pulled the cluster apart and removed the odometer out. This is a 2-wire type.
I need to know if there is any way of testing the motor, and/or test the drive from the board?
If the odometer is at fault, the next question would be, is a replacement available? From where?
If the cluster is out of the car then you'll really need a fequency generator to test it. If the speedo still worked on the cluster but the odometer didn't the problem is more than likely with the odometer. Get a used/but working odo assembly with similar mileage from an '84-'88 (all 2 wires) and swap it out. ~$30 + shipping should be what you'll expect to pay.
Yes my mistake, hit the 5 instead of the 4. I have a 85 C4 Corvette.
The speedo is working fine so it must be the odometer thats in question. So now I will need to find a replacement (2nd hand) one.
Someone said to ensure the connector was seated correctly. When I pulled it off there was good contact.
Ok, I brought a new motor for my odometer today and while I was at it he had the test equipment to test my dash and the motor, the old one and then the new one.
Display came up great, displaying the new lens kit I installed, and then he made it so the odometer should work.
Needless to say the one in the dash was not turning, next in the new one and right away you could see the chog turning, so now I have a fully operational dash again.
Back together it goes and into the car, another job ticked off.
