wheel offset is confusing me, what fits

wheel offset is confusing me, what fits
I have
84 front 38 offset 8.5 X 16 wheels and 86 rearend D-44 no wheels yet
will this work
with 56 offset 9.5 X 17 wheels front and 50 offset 11 X 17 wheels rear
are spacers needed to keep the wheels from hitting the suspention or what
this is on a hotrod there is no problem with fener clearance
why don't they make the 97-99 5 spoke in a 17 X 11

The AFS web site has a good break down on what fits. They also make wheels that don't require spacers for your car. I have never liked the idea of spacers. Of course if you allready have your wheels it is a moot question.

can anyone tell me why the 56 offset front
and the 56 rear wont work without spacers
WHAT HITS is it the frame, fenders, body?
OR the suspension?
I want my wheels in as far as possible
