I used a 17mm bolt with two nuts tightened against one another on the side. Worked for my car, but on my friend's we needed to weld a blob on the side of the nuts to stop then from turning. Better advice is to go buy a tool, but I had the stuff laying around.

If they are tight I would try and "shock" them out rather than a constant pull on a breaker bar. You can easily round off the Hex if your not carefull.
Mine come out pretty easy now as I change my oil every couple of years.
First though - Undo the FILL plug. Theres no point draining all the oil out before you know you can get in there to fill it back up.

As stated, use a 17mm hex bit. And make sure you can loosen the fill plug before you remove the drain plug.
I found this at AutoZone. 1/2" drive socket.
