Default L98 max cam?

L98, what is the max cam lift with stock springs? I though I had read .510, but a search fails to turn that info up again.

From a search I understand the LT1/4 ZZ4 hot cam can be installed. Specs is .492 with 1.5 rockers and .525 with 1.6 rockers (per GMPP catalog). So it is okay with 1.5 rockers only? What springs would be needed to use 1.6 rockers? if stock doesn't work.

....and how does the ZZ4 cam relate to the cam in the year one 400hp crate engine? http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/f...ain2.asp?cat=Q I ask because I can buy locally in new cond cam, lifters, pushrods, liter retainers, and timing gear set for $200.....man says it's .525 lift hot cam.
Thanks.

the lt4 hot cam kit came with 1.6 rollers and .525 lift as well as springs for that lift. You should buy some springs to support .550 lift.

Why not the 219/219 lingenfelter cam if you are staying with the TPI stuff.

Dont even think of running old stock springs with that kind of lift.

Springs are cheap engines arent.

If you are talking 113 heads, there is also an issue of valve cap to valve seal clearance with the higher lift "hotcam". Don't want to squash the seals (or worse). Note the height difference between the Comp. cap on the right and stock one. I wouldn't use the stock springs regardless.
I used Comp 981 beehives (rated .525 lift) and retainers on stock 113 heads with 1.6 rockers and hotcam, 20k mi. no problems. Others will recommend different springs. I'm happy with mine.

Great stuff.
- As I am new here still, not sure what heads I have, it's a 1990 C4 l98 Alum heads, angled plugs. Headers, hi-flow cats and magnaflows
- So ideally should buy the complete zz4 kit with springs and look for shorter retainers too, I guess that is what I am reading.
