I got a new convertible top in the spring, and wanted to remove it before I installed the hardtop for the winter. In the past, I left the folding top in the car, but it caused some parts of the top material to stretch and crack, and I wanted to avoid that with the new top.
The FSM says to remove the studs that hold the arms, but some of the Forum members have said that it is difficult to reattach these studs. I am thinking it might be easier to unbolt the folding top pivot bracket (the one the hard top also bolts to), and either remove the studs, and reinstall the bracket, or try to get another set of brackets, and leave the original brackets on the folding top during storage. Anyone ever done this before?
I have removed the convertible top on my '88 for a few summers to make room for my daughters softball equipment. I don't recall having to remove any studs. Not a very difficult job, as long as you have someone to help lift it out. You are going to be surprised as to how much room you will have back there with the convertible top out.
