Default sound now steam from vents.

Ok i got my 1993 Corvette in july and the windows would fog up and defrost did not work becouse ac refrigerant was empty. Bought the R134 conversion and filled. AC worked fine and defroster but i alway heard a hissing sound come from the passenger dash not sure if it was there when i bought it. Coming home yesterday i turned the vent on and steam came out of the vents. turned ac on a steam and i dont think with the heat on any steam came out. Could this be the heater core? I also heard a blocked evap hose (anybody have a pic of this?) Dont want to tear a heater core out when it could be something else.

Its either steam & antifreeze coming out of the A/C air outlet vents OR

Its Evaporator Core along side the heater core.

Do You smell anti-freeze or a candy like smell ever driving your Corvette ?
If so, then it very likely is time to replace the heater core.

Yes,

If you have the girlfriend or wife nearby,
take them for a 1 or 2 mile ride in your C4.

Women have a heightened sense of smell 10 times of what any Man has.

If there is even a trace of anti freeze blowing through the A/C outlet, defroster, or floor heat,

She will smell & know it long before You & I will.

I have never had to replace the heater core on my 87 Vert.
Lucky here I guess.

There is only 1 guy here on c4 that has replaced heater cores on a regular basis.
I am getting tired, cant recall his name.
He is in Canada & a longtime C4 member.
I recall his 1986 c4 heater core replacement thread.

He is good with c4 electrical systems likewise.
He will chime in later this morning to help You.

I replaced a heater core in a 2002 Mercury Grand marquis this past week at work.
Was a tiring & pretty tough job.
Dashboards are real heavy in them too, steel dash framework.
Same chassis as the Ford Crown Vic cop cars.

Your C4 heater core replacement should be much easier than that Mercury.

Agent 86 is who your talking about, Brian. Dan has spent a bunch of time devoted to the C4 and putting together excellent repair procedures.

Lots and lots of write ups here. Try the search function. Click the "Search" button up top, select "Advanced", then "C4 Tech/Performance" then put in "Heater Core" or similar. Read for the next day or two.

What the heck do you need a heater core for in San Diego anyway??

No need to spend any more time contemplating since
there is only one way antifreeze will end up on your windshield.

Yep time to R&R the core.
