Default Exhaust and Cats

Hello again all, New to the forum although already posted a couple questions, awesome place to learn about Corvettes.

I bought an 84 with an XRAM and headers. I know the cats were taken out. I love the sound, but realize now it is really too loud and almost ruins the ride. I wish it were like my boat where I can go from thru transom to thru engine, anyway that's another story.

I think I would like to put a Cat(s)? back in. Anyone have any experieince on this? Again, the power feels awesome, but feel like I am drowning out any enjoyment of a nice ride.

Any advice/experieince would be appreiciated.

if you have the stock Y sections on this then it should be as simple as 1 big main cat inbetween the Y's. Really need more info on the rest of the system.

I would think that may be enough to quieten things down and be an effective converter.

Thanks, gonna crawl under and take a look and maybe picture. I know this is not a stock exhaust, but I do believe it is the same configuration/layout as stock (without the cat).

Hopefully, I can simply cut a section and install a single cat. This is also causing the engine check light to stay on and will fail inspection next October.

IIRC the 1984 only had 1 main cat just behind the front Y pipe. You shound have room to weld in a universal Magnaflow (Carsound) main high flow cat just behind the front Y pipe in the normal place. This will quiet it down without hurting performance. I got a universal Magnaflow on eBay for under $70 shipped.

The check engine light has nothing to do with the missing cat. Scan the car determine what code is set and fix the error. The cat will quite the car down.
