Radiator cap won't budge, any ideas?

Radiator cap won't budge, any ideas?
My 86 needs a water pump, was just out in the garage and about to drain the coolant when I noticed the radiator cap will not come off :cuss . it will turn about 1 inch and thats it. I tried spraying some pb blaster on it and tapping lightly with a hammer, but no dice...please help, I don't want to break the radiator neck in the process.

hey kev, are you sure you're pushing down hard enuff to clear the stops?

You really have to push down and turn left. Use a rag or gloves so you don't tear your hand up. Mine was a b*&$h! :boxing

As everyone else says, you gotta bear down on it to get it to turn. If all else fails, the radiators are simple to remove.....and since you are replacing one component of your cooling system, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take the whole thing down to a radiator shop and have it flushed and tell your radiator man the cap is fused to the rad. He will be able to get it off without destroying the neck...and you will get a clean rad to boot. Don't forget to clean off all the bugs and debris from the front.

Thanks guys, sprayed some more solvent on it and let it sit...came back later and with the help of a pair of channel locks it finally came off :chevy
