I bought the GM outer door seals. I know that the MAD Vette seals come with rivets but I've been reading that the GM seals are far superior. Before I start, what kind of rivets do I need and are they available at Lowe's? Thanks
It's really hard to replace all 3 of them.. the one by the mirror is nearly impossible to get to with a riveter... I didn't rivet that one and my car is doing fine oabout a year later.
How hard are those outer door seals to remove and replace? I bought the new ones from MAD about 5 months ago, and have YET to even THINK of putting them on...but lately, I've been hearing of more people doing them. I'm pretty skilled when it comes to working on cars, but it was the thought of taking the door apart that scared me. (I don't want to try and put it back together and then have it look like complete CRAP) I need to replace my inner door upper trim/seals aswell, so should I do this all at once? Thanks!
This afternoon I replaced the door outer seals, and I'm glad I didn't read this thread first, or I'd have not bothered with the rivets. However, I did bother and although the one by the mirror was tricky, I was able to get the rivetter on all 3. I'd hate to have not bothered then find the seal creeping up over time!

my seals wouldn't stay down without the rivets, i didn't have enough of the right size rivets to do both sides and so i left the drivers side rivets off, and the seal crept up the very first time i rolled the window up. none of the rivets was really that difficult to get to, but then again maybe my riveter is a different style than some of yours.
it also helps if you take a wide putty knife and a hammer and tap the seal into a perfectly straight line and make sure it is well seated before riveting it down... tapping it really made it look much better than the ones that i did without tapping them.
The first door took me an 90 minutes the second. 30 minutes. Once you get the doors off (15 minutes) and you know what to do it is a snap... I guess my gun was smaller than everyone's  I made all the rivets fit
PS. to me the worst part was makign the snap pins fit into the groove while the darn window was in the way. Just insure that you center the snap pin tab in the center of the oval shaped how if you have it too far to either exteme in this hole it will be difficult to get the other tabs lined in proberly... I use GM part from Jeff Coop. $25 bucks per side... Why not go with the OEM part
