Default Touch screen radio in c4

Has anyone put one of the touch screen stereo head units that have a GPS in a c4? If so, which ones fit and does it look okay?

My Kenwood DNX 5140 fit in the opening perfectly. No trimming at all. It's got GPS, Bluetooth, plays movies, answers the telephone through the car speakers and it may even be a radio and DVD player too.

I paid a little over $400 on FleaBay for everything. It was factory refurbished with a full warranty. I did a bunch of research before buying and chose the Kenwood because it uses the Garmin GPS and I was familiar with the operation.

The Pioneer AVIC series is also highly rated. You'll probably want to keep away from the Chinese units because they seem to have a lot of problems. You could check online for refurbished Kenwood DNX. Some are newer than mine and have more features built in.

CF member Flame Red has a pic of his posted. I don't. You even get a USB plug for downloading your own pics for the display.

Yep i have the Kenwood and it is great. No regrets at all. The model i have has long been discontinued and newer models have replaced them.

One thing to consider is the ones where the screen motors out to pop up will probably interfere withe the shifter at least for my year.

I think i have a post about the install. Try searching for it if you are thinking about installing one yourself

@1963SS: Will those fit in an early C4? Mine is an 86.

There was a post about a company that makes a Double DIN trim plate for the early C4. I think that the name was something like Double DIN Mods.

I put an eclipse unit with a removable tom Tom gps in my 92. Fit good enough but I had to clearance the corners because the face moves out of the dash to show the opening for the cd player. I might have a picture somewhere if untreated.

Dan, I'm glad you posted this. I was expecting this to be all late C4s as the OP didn't state year. Any problem with the display touching your 4+3 shifter on the way in or out when locked in reverse?

Looks awesome. Was thinking of doing this on my 94 after I saw the Pioneer at WalMart. Where can I find information on installing an after market stereo in my 94. I know its not exactly a "plug and play" install. I remember reading somwhere about a resister that needs to be installed and a few other "Vette special" procedures. Thanks!!!

No problems at all, Ray. One advantage of the flip out, the touch screen is in a more user friendly location.

Here is my JVC unit. Only mod I had to do was the lower face plate bracket on the bottom left and right of the unit. ONLY a small little sanding took care of that. No problems with the shifter clearance. I like it but its about 5 years old and I need to update if someone wants this one !

no touch screen, but plays dvds and works great. Really takes the sound of the bose sysem and can fine tune it to make it sound much better. Thats whats good about these double din units.

Thanks again, Dan. I'm sold! I'll be replacing my current Kenwood with one of these then.

I put a Pioneer AVIC in my 94. You need to find the shortest double din unit you can find. You will also need to remove (dremel) a plastic bracket in the back of the radio hole and buy a bose wiring harness adapter. The tuner is in the compartment behind the passenger seat and the adapter works perfectly.

I agree that the aftermarket radio really sounds good through the bose speakers.

Actually it is Double D Mods and Dennis uses C5BearsFan as his name on the CorvetteForum.

Default Touch Screen Radio 1994 C4

I installed a Pioneer AVH 2300 DVD Radio utilizing a double din Install kit. removed all the BOSE stuff, left the wires and ran all new wires and put Pioneer Speakers front and rear. Fit perfect, no trimming involved. Running wires was time consuming but worth it. Tried to attach pictures but I don't know how.

With the aftermarket nav systems did you need to get an input from VSS wire and can you suggust a good location for a ground.

If I recall correctly there is already a VSS lead available to the original radio, at least for the later C4s. Same for the ground... there is a wire in there somewhere. Check into your service manual. If you don't have one of those you should probably get one. All the wiring diagrams are in there.
