Default 1990 fuel regulator question

I am in the process of replacing my injectors with a set of Bosch III from FIC and came across a deranged site. The otherwise tick looking fuel regulator has a screw placed in the center of the top. Is there any reason this would be there? It turns easily and doesn't look like a bolt the Gm would of used?.. Any idea why it's there? Trying to determine if i should replace this or if it's ok as is?.

It looks like some sort of jerry rigged adjustable fuel pressure. I wouldn't trust it. Get a new one before you end up throwing fuel all over the intake.

If its not leaking leave it be. May have to adjust it once its running.

That is the worst place to get a fuel leak. Get a new adjustable regulator.

I have a BBK on mine and am happy with it, but most people will say that the Holley unit is the best one. I have to admit that the Holleys look really nice.

LOL....

the smell of fear....or is that gas?

This is a DIY adjustable that someone with a brain made and saved himself $85 for the EXACT same thing without paint...

The store bought regulators are identicle. Adjusting screw threaded into the cap where it limits the travel of the disc that is actuated by the diaphram as it reacts to changing vacuum/pressures and allows more/less fuel to pass.

as long as the screw is stable and not about to fall out, there is no danger...no more than any other regulator. When an adjustable leaks internally it usually goes out thru return since thats there and easier than leaking past the threads of the screw.
The 'bought' regulators do not have any seal in that screw...its the same thing, just ugly.

Looks like the expensive aftermarket, black anodized, alum ones leesvet mentions ;
except the owner has replaced the fancy adjusting screw it came with

Even that is fail safe
if the screw falls out you are just back to stockish fuel pressure

Thanks everyone. I was worried when I first seen this however it was working just fine. I may put a nut on there to help lock it place.

Then it will be exactly like the $85 store bought reg top....

......except for one major difference.

You have $85 in YOUR pocket instead of somebody selling a part that you don;t need. That'll happen sooner or later. Do what you can to make it later...

Good Luck with your car !
