The stereo in my 1993 sounds really weak and it seems like it just isn't getting enough juice. I can get sound out of all the speakers so i think they are still good. Could it be that the amp is going? Any ideas besides getting something new? joe
I just learned that the bose system speakers are all individually amped. (if i'm not smoken something) that would make it more of a power issue than an amp - all amps would not go out at the same time. maybe something is unpluged.
Is it a Bose? If so, thats whats wrong with it. They all die sooner or later. Mine has worked well for me, but lately the cd player has been having a mind of its own. I wish it would just stop all together so I can get something that is halfway decent in there.:)
replace it with after market, i just did mine last week, the stock bose is a joke , if you have an amp problem , pull the speakers and change the amp circuit, they can be purchased from a few of the catalogs. you'll be happier with a new system , trust me! i learned the hard way ! good luck  :chevy
My Bose CD changer and radio started giving me the same symptoms. I pulled the head unit and took it to a Delco Bose repair outlet. The technician that worked on it indicated that the electrolytic capacitors that Bose used in their original manufacture dry out and cause the radio/CD to have a wide variety of failures. He rebuilt the entire unit, replacing 85 of the capacitors. It sounds great and works flawlessly. I think it was one of the best investments I've made on the car - cost $200 - he did a clean and align on the tape player as well.
If it is varying with speed, there is a three position outer **** on the volume button. Move this to the different settings. You could have moved it by turning the volume up or down. The different possitions are designed to raise and lower the volume with the speed by different amounts. One keeps it constant for driving with the windows closed. The second is for open windows and the last for putting the top down or taking off the roof. If this doesn't fix the problem replace it as you can get a much better deck for $200 than fixing the old POS Bose.
glad that worked for you , but for $200 you coulda got a whole nother unit, your speakers will probably start popping next , i truly hope not for your sake good luck :D
