Default Dim Dash LCD Speed Display Help

Has anyone else had an issue with the LCD Speed/Gas gauge display being very dim and light gray vs. sharp dark black digits? My ZR1 has only 4,500 miles and was like this when I bought it. I wonder if there is corrosion on the pins on the back of instruments vs. grounds making bad contact.

Where are the grounds for the instruments located and how do you access them to clean them? I notice that the LCD backlight dims when I press on the brake pedal at idle.

I read about someone who just cleaned the pins on the back of the instrument pane with alcohol and the connector and the display is now dark uniform black. Any sage input or solutions before I proceed to remove the instruments is appreciated?

The turn signals might dim the clusters back lighting but the brake lights shouldn't. Check the brake light's sockets and ground locations.

The LCDs for the 90 - 96 cluster are pretty much the inverse of how the backlight is allowed to flow through the digital crystal segments of the 84-89 lcd panels. So the LCD panel on your year won't look "black" with the car "off"...which is normal.

When the digits aren't as sharp/dark as they should be usually it is because the lcd panel has been over exposed to UV light. UV over exposure is not as much of a problem in the 90-96 cluster as the LCD is better "shaded" by design.

I really don't see someone parking a ZR1 with only 4.5 K miles in the sun for all those years but you never know.

I have a 95 with only 100,000 more miles and recently had the clutch master cylinder failed while of a road trip. I was able to get home by adding fluid but when I did so I spilled some. I replaced the master cylinder a few days later and then A couple days later the same issue turned up - only mine fades in and out. This car seems to crave attention. I will advise if I can find the cause --- Thinking corroded or loose ground or... Maybe a cracked circuit in the cluster (pun intended). -- Good luck

There is a small ground on the frame rail drivers side near the crash sensor that may have something to do with this. Actually there are 2 grounds right there I black wire and the woven ground dtrap from the engine. Great location to get dripped on by brake master cyl and so on.

- Also the cluster ground is behind carpet drivers left footwell about the same height as the bottom of the lower dash but you must remove the door sill cover to get to it.

Thanks for the advice and answering my question I will definitely check these grounds before removing and cleaning the cluster connections.
