Mine was hunting every once in awhile but it was only when it was hot. Ended up that the prior owner put really cheap spark wires in and they were arcing to the head. Use a volt meter and touch it to each spark plug boot and to ground on VDC you should never get anything besides O.L. You can also use a test light to do this.
I replaced the spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap, distributor, rotor, PCV, ICV, and ignition coil. Which made it run a little but still wants to hunt between 6 & 8' when at operating temperature.
1. Take the TB off and take the IAC valve and the IAC housing off. Clean it thoroughly. Reinstall
2. Get your hands on a scanner. See what the IAC counts are and adjust the IAC based off that. You want about 20-30 counts. Higher counts mean you need to turn the screw in and give it more opening at the blades. rev motor, recheck IAC counts. Less counts mean you need to close the opening by turning the screw out, rev and recheck.
3. Check fuel pressure at WOT by pulling out the hose at the fuel pressure regulator.
4. At some point, if all is well, adjust the TPS and see.
5. Prepare to take the injectors out for cleaning and testing as they can cause problems even if you don't see it because the ECM is adjusting for the issue
