No argument...just don't understand why this would be done?
I have left my keys and fob in the car while doing routine work. The door locks seem to click every 3 or 4 minutes like they want to lock but the fob being close is preventing this procedure.

Believe there's a small ball in the transmitter that, when the fob is moved, transmits.
If the fob does not move the battery shud not run down.
IIRC if the key is in the ignition the system won't lock the doors.
Leaving the keys in the ignition will not affect the fob battery life (unless the car itself is moving somehow), but could lead to your being locked out of the car!

If you are working on the car even minute bumping could be enough to activate the fob and try to lock the doors.
The doors shouldn't lock via the fob if the keys are all of the way in, if every thing is working correctly.
Don’t know if there is a absolute definitive answer here. I have heard that is does possibly in theory. But I will share my experience not my opinion.
Since 03 when I got the car when at home the keys always stay in the ignition but I pull it back a click so the chimes don't ding. When I was traveling for work for one or two week trips, the keys would also just stay in. We are kind of in the country so I am kind of secluded from the main roads and car is in a locked garage.
I don’t think since 03 I have ever changed the battery till about 09 when I lost the original FOB that I can remember. So now another new FOB since 09 and still is good. I have two spare FOBs in the house.
I don’t know if leaving the FOB all the way in the ignition would make a difference, some say it does, I can't comment.
Now some interesting info. With the key in the car, if I bump the car or make some kind of loud noise, the locks will sometimes cycle. Usually to open (car is open anyway so no change). But sometimes it will lock by itself. I just rock the car and it opens.
Don’t ya just love the PKE system when it works right.
If you lock your keys and FOB in the car....just wait about 5 minutes. The FOB will go to sleep due to lack of movement. Now rock the care strongly.........the FOB wakes up and unlocks the car.
I verified this twice just to make it worked........I seem to remember that it is stated as such in the owners manual.
