Default Throttle issues at higher speeds

I have a 94 A4 that is stock besides the air filter.

I bought the car back in February, and since then I have replaced all maintenance parts (oil filter, trans fluid, oil, trans filter, etc) ECXEPT for the spark plugs and wires -- so that might be the problem here but check this out:

The PROBLEM: when driving at highway speeds (55-65mph), if I put the throttle to the floor, the car will not downshift into 3rd and will barely accelerate in 4th gear (it's slow).

However, if I floor it and then let up about 3/4 an inch on the gas peddle the car downshifts and takes off like crazy and will pull to the redline before going into 4th. (~100mph)

The transmission shifts very smoothly at slower speeds, and if I punch it from a standstill, the car performs like it should. It only hesitates if I punch it from around 60mph...

I'm not sure if maybe this is a throttle cable adjustment or something like that but if it is, then I'd like to fix it myself but I don't know how...

I will also note that the accel. Pedal has no slack at all, so I always have to barely touch the pedal from a stop or else the car jumps (which is kinda cool I guess). So I'm not sure if maybe someone who owned it before me may have adjusted something...

Anyways, thanks for any help.

First thing I'd check is TV cable adjustment. Sounds like the converter is not unlocking. Use "search" here on the forum for more detailed info.

OK, I opened up my ASR box and had a look at the cables...

I had someone sit in the car and put the petal to the floor while I watched the 2 valves open in the throttle body.

When the petal was to the floor, it made a "ping" sound and the valves opened all the way (turned 90 degrees).

I looked all over the owner's manual for info but there's nothing in there for the cable adjustment. I searched dozens of threads on the forums as well, and was able to find ONE thread that actually had pictures of what someone did to fix their issue.

I stuck a very small metal bolt into the hole and underneath the cable that connects from the ASR to the throttle body, because I noticed a very small amount of slack in the manual pulley.

I'm going to test drive either tomorrow or thursday to see if it did anything.

While searching some other threads I noticed that someone mentioned that the 3 to 4 shift should occur at 55MPH..... Mine ALWAYS shifts from 3 to 4 at 48MPH, so perhaps what I stuck in there might change it?

I'll keep looking to see if I can find another thread about a 94' cable adjustment in the meantime..

Your 94 has the 4L60E (E for electronic) transmission, so no TV cable. It is also supposed to shift into 4th gear at about 45mph. Maybe you need to adjust your throttle cable? The one from the ASR to the throttle body. It has a tab on the cable and you don;t even need any tools to adjust it.
