I have a 93, LT1, 64k miles, ZF6spd...all original. I have been doing a number of searches throughout the forum and have a few questions. I would really like to up the power a bit, and think heads and cam would be the best way to go (thought about headers/exhaust, but the bang for the buck just doesnt seem worth it at this point). I was thinking of going with the LT4 hot cam, and maybe just having the stock heads ported? Are aftermarket heads a better bet with this cam? I am pretty new to corvettes (only been an owner for just over a year) and am looking for a little guidance here. I have some wrenching ability, but not much. Money is not too much of an issue either, although i dont mind spending as long as it is worth it/reasonable. If i do heads and cam, would anything else need to be done? Any other ideas? Any and all help is appreciated.
I did just the hot cam kit on my 92 6sp,with long tube headers and x-pipe,as well as an electric water pump along with a pcm for less hot cam tune.It made a huge difference.Track wise I went from 13.9-14.2 100-102mph to 12.3x-12.5x@114.9mph with a terrible best of 1.90 60'.
I would think if you are going to do heads cam or only one,it would be a waste to not put long tube headers.
Not planning on taking this to the track; really just want a helluva street car. So sounding like heads may be out...what about simply porting the stock heads a bit?? Worth the cost? I really want to make some more power, and from what i have read the exhaust isnt the best bang for the buck in terms of making power; am i wrong in this? Thanks.
yes would need to keep the car smog legal preferably...how much can i expect to gain in HP from a hot cam kit and long tube headers? Does around 260-270 rear wheel hp stock sound right?
I did the hot cam with 1.6 roller rockers, new springs, LT headers (exotic muscle) and ditched the cats, I have a 93 6 speed, the difference was really great fun, a good increase in power you can really feel. However the new cam was too much for the motor and spinning it past 6000 rpm toasted the bearings and the valves started getting oil by them. With LT headers you will have to relocate the cats to pass inspection and they get expensive, with headers right around a grand and good cats another 500+. I think the hot cam is good for about 30 hp and the LT headers another 15. Good luck.
dolbnyc - that trick flow setup does look great...but does anything else need to be beefed up as well? tranny? also, the article said new injectors, timing chain, and pushrods; how much extra can i expect to shell out for those? sorry for all the rookie questions, but i dont want to lose the reliability of the car. thanks for all the input. Has anyone here used this setup?
