I just bought a 95 Polo green coupe with 44600 miles on it....the car is Imaculate bone stock.
I am wanting to install a catback system with an x pipe, a cold air intake kit, a granatelli cold air mass airflow sensor, a 160 degree thermostat, and finally a SLP Flow Booster
I would like feedback from the forum on the plus and minus of these mods, and suggestions, as winter is comming and I am going to spend time in the Garage.........
Thanks
Greg

Honestly I doubt if all the mods listed will even make a 10 hp gain....certainly not seat of the pants..
You will get a new exhaust tone if that is what you are after...
If you leave it alone it will save you money. Then you will get beat on the street by a car you wouldn't think is faster and that won't sit well and mods will start. I wouldn't do any of the mods you listed as they cost too much money and don't do much performance wise. There are tons of threads about modding LT1 cars and it depends on how much money you want to spend or how much power you want as to whether you get the answer you are looking for here.
First of all you must realize that companies are trying to sell you parts for your cars and they will tell you almost anything to make the sale. You will never see 30 HP from the mods you listed.
Keep it stock for now. Then if you really want to do something then spend the money to do it right. 1) AFR 195 heads 2) Lingenfelter 74211 cam (passes California SMOG) 3) GM LT4 intake and last....4) 1.6 roller rockers....then you will need a new tune. This should give you 375 HP at the rear wheels. You will wear a grin after this....
If I had to do it all over again... I wouldn't have made all the mods I made.
I'd keep it simple
exhaust
tires/rims
and just a couple of other small things and focus on A/C,weatherstrip,etc.
congrats on the new ride!
It if were me I'd keep it stock until stuff starts wearing out or breaking....which shouldn't be too long from now.
Enjoy the car.
I agree with engle1147 the kiss method is the best if you read all the posts seems like everybody that has all kind of weird problems has done all kinds of performance upgrades.was going to make upgrades to mine, thats what started me reading threads here.the more i read the more i'm going to leave it stock, drive it and enjoy it. AFTER ALL GM SPENT MILLIONS IN R AND D.AND WE ALL THINK WE KNOW MORE THEN THEM.
I would consider changing all the fluids and a complete tuneup first.Drive it for a while and see what you like/dislike.
A catback and air filter is easy enough and will help a little.Keep the stock parts since it is a low mile original.
You can get a little out of the LT-1 with some bolt on mods not much...I have a 96 LT-4 140,000 miles 354 rear .K&N open filter 52mm T.body no cats 3" exh. all the way out 8.5 wires very good plugs new OPTI big A&s rad. 180% Super Stat. ..Had it on the dyno and 325 RWHP.. retuned the thing and a bigger MAP..Prop.spent $1,500 on the stuff runs good was it worth it??????? Going to open the block this winter and try to get 400 Hp to the rear wheels..383 around $7,000 for the works.. or my 96 $7,000 used Z0-6 ????? Lot's to think about...
Question, what is your goal for this car ?.. just street and club runs ?.. auto-crossing or track car.. ? and how much will you be doing any of the track/crossing ?
Having more HP is good... but a better handling car is better if you have to make turns somewhere along your drive ! What about Tire, wheels, Brakes and suspension with your thinking of the Mod.. I'd skip the SLP Flow Booster and MAF.
Just my 2cents. .keep the stock parts around.. you can always put them back on or have a spare part if needed.

This 96 was built by me .Vett. was reworked as if I ordered it new was trying to see if could build one to do everything good track car everday driveing just a very good NOS C-4 Corvette and came out very good.. this one handles with C-5s and most C-6s rides and drives better than new is new all but motor..This one has the works in resion C-5 brakes and on and on ..It can be seen a radar502 have lots pic ..One small prop. with building one like this $17,000 to $20,000 in it 85% NOS parts and I did all the work..I gave $7,000 for vett. in good shape..So to get one to do it all lot's money..So figure out what you want to do go for it just remenber you can spend $7,000 to $10.000 on one in a heart beat..I love this one but not cheap..I put lot's of thinking in this one not just parts put together.. Got to love it...If a 95 ZO-7 handles very good already .. If had a low miles one would Turbo or Vortx and some big sway bars springs Ect. and have fun......

I think I will take you advice and do all the fluids and go synthetic when I do
I have modded several cars and I have learned sometimes the hard ($$) way, three things to consider before starting down the modding road.
1) Your budget.
2) Your mechanical skill level.
3) Your performance expectations and usage.
Remeber to be honest with yourself and add about 20% to the expected costs. Nothing is more frustrating than starting something you can't handle, having to farm it out and not having enough money left to finish the mods that started the process in the first place.
You wind up with a half finished car that does not perform as expected and you are out of $$. Remember, horsepower is not cheap. If you decide to move forward, do it RIGHT the first time. Whatever corner you cut, will come back to bite you. You car is designed to work as a system with each part being built to perform under specific conditions and power levels.
Good luck which ever way you go. By the way, your car sounds like it's a beauty.
Often it is not how much HP but how seldom you step on the brakes..LOL.. I had an 87 Ferio GT years ago and wish I still had it. Only 160 hp but handled really well so once you wound it up you seldom had to lift.
Ya.Just have fun.I have a 95 Z0-7 All stock and a 96 all moded up I have just as much fun in the 95 as the 96 ..Corvetts are just cool..Can't beat a low miles clean low miles vett..Enjoy to you get old and crazy then mods....
