I finally got mu Hurst Shifter installed after almost a year. I didn't know my Corvette could shift so good!!!! It's like a totally different car. I love that Hurst Shifter!!!!. I have two questions though. 1st - For those of you who installed the shifter, was/is there a space between your console and your shift boot? There is a space between mine and it lets in alot of road noise. I don't know if it is normal or if there is a prblem. 2nd - What is the thread size on the shifter handle? I wanted to get a new poopieer **** but don't know the size (3/8" x 16 Thread ?) Any help will be apreciated. :yesnod:
There shouldn't be a space or gap there. There is supposed to be a floor seal there to keep dust, noise, etc out. I found this out when I installed my Hurst, the dealer didn't put my seal back in place(it was pushed under the hole in the floor) and it let a ton of noise in. As for the size of the handle it is 9/16x18 (I think), I may have the # of threads wrong but it is 9/16. You can use a flameball or any of the C5 ***** that are available.
The lower boot should seal between the floor of the car and the top of the shifter base. Chevy designed it to be quiet. When I installed my Hurst, the lower boot was torn. I got a new one from Chevy for about $30 and installed it. It is very tough to properly secure the boot on the left side, next to the drivers foot. You don't have much room between the shifter and the edge of the console. It can be done, but we careful and work gently, so as not to break anything.
There shouldn't be any space- I'm not sure if you're missing a boot, or if the upper rubber boot isn't seated right against the floor. If you can take some pics of the gap, that would help. The **** thread size is 9/16"-18, any 6-speed C5 **** or other custom **** will fit. Hurst will soon have classic style round ***** (w/ shift pattern) for this application, but it will be a few months. thanks,
I think I might have figured out the problem. I purchased a new leather shift boot when I bought the shifter. My mechanic was telling me that it was a little different than the original Chevy boot that was on there. I think that might be the problem. Did anybody ever buy a new leather boot for their car? I am sure I bought the right one when I ordered it from MAD. A new Chevy boot is $207!!!! :yesnod:
