Default dead 91 radio

Nothing works - antenna does not go up, display is clear - no clock,
looks like the ignition switch is off. Looking at the FSM section 8, there are interfaces with the CCM and several other systems. Does anybody have a clue where to start looking? The radio fuse in the dash end cap is OK, but I have not looked for the fuse under the dash. Could this mean a dead radio module?

Check the Bose relay which I think it is under the dash of that year car.

Also check the connector or corrosion for the tuner unit which is behind the passenger seat in the compartment.

There is also a ground in the same compartment but is probably not this problem.

Yes, it's a Bose system.

"Also check the connector or corrosion for the tuner unit which is behind the passenger seat in the compartment." - no tuner unit there in the 91; I think it got put there later when the passenger air bag arrived.

Sounds like an internal short in the head unit if nothing looks like it's powered up. The radio receiver should be above the passenger side kick panel.

The Bose relay is for the speaker amps themselves.

You might try posting the issue in the Audio and Electronics section. Sounds like the best thing is to either remove the head unit and fix or replace or go with an aftermarket system. Contact Dennis at Double D Mods; he's a CF supporting vendor (username is c5 BearsFan) and is very highly regarded when it comes to audio systems.

Update: both RADIO and RDO fuses are OK. The head unit displays 1:00 with no backlight with the ignition on or in accy positions. (1:00 because the battery was previously disconnected.) When ign sw is in the accy position and I open the door, the 1:00 disappears - meaning the delayed accessory bus is operating correctly. So, I'm leaning to a defective control head now. Any affirmations out there?
FWIW, the system was working OK, and then it pooped out.

One more: hit the SET button and the LED lights but can not set the clock - it stays at 1:00. No other head buttons seem alive.

According to Dr.Don, the power supply in the receiver (CDM?) has failed, and it's on the way to him for repair. That little SOB is a real bear to remove.

take the oportunity and improve the sound system

after many years, repairing the unit, and amplifier. at last I removed the bose system

was a great system, but now exist better option at very affordabel price.

you can install a new unit, single or double size unit. the adapter sells in a lot of places.
double size includes video screen and gps,mp3,sd,usb ipod

I installed a single unit alpine with usb and ipod ready.

I tried 3 configurations.

1 setup

1.- Front 6 1/2 boston acoustic 2 way component
2.- rear 6 1/2 woofers
3.- 4 channel amp
4.- 2 way electronic crossover audiocontrol

great accoustic the bass sounds in front

2 setup

1.- Front 6 1/2 boston acoustic 2 way component
2.- rear 6 1/2 speakers
3.- 4 channel amp

better overall sound and cheaper

3 setup

1.- Front 6 1/2 boston acoustic 2 way component
2.- rear 6 1/2 speakers
3.- 4 channel amp
4.- 10" woofer in 1 cargo storage side (non abs)
5.- 1 channel amp
6.- audiocontrol epicenter

a lt more bass but really dont need it for me

the point is that with a new stereo and 4 speakers you will have a better sound quality, mp3.

the rear speaker enclosure already exist, front you need to make it, mine in fiberglass

Everything is back together and working fine. The repair was Wifey's Christmas present - and Doctor Don fixed the receiver over a weekend.
