Default Cooling Fans Temp Setting

What's the best way to lower the temperature so that your radiator fans come on a lower temp? I've heard it involves a reprogramming process. Or is it simply replacing the sensors?

Needs the FAN operating temps changed on the tune in the PCM
PCM needs to be reflashed with new tune

Remember that the C4's are designed to run with slightly higher coolant temps to help with emissions. Temps in the high 190's to 200-205 are perfectly normal. Even 210-215 in hot weather is not a problem.

The secondary fan doesn't come on until 238 or so. If you are seeing high temps, it may be time to clean out the gaps between the radiator tubes and fins. Same with the A/C condenser. Plug up the airflow and the radiator will not cool as effectively as it should.

However,
This is a 96 and there is no "secondary fan". Both fans run together either high or low speed.

Low speed is with A/C on or at about 228*. And high speed is at about 239*.

VA50 - What are you temperatures and why do you want to reprogram.

...im not sure i do....right now on the digital...while driving around town I see 205-210......up until about it week ago it hardly ever got above 200-205...so ive seen a slight increase.....i guess its not a problem.

Thanks for all the input

If it's stock you are fine. Some of us have modified setups with lower thermostat and lower programmed fan temps in the PCM. You don't need to bother.

Missed the '96 part. His temps do sound fine, but it would be a good idea to inspect the radiator and A/C condenser for debris and probably do a coolant system flush and refill with fresh Dexcool. Might be worth replacing the lower radiator hose if it's original.
