Did a open lid mod tonight
What a pain in the rear cutting the lid. I used a dremel with about 50 cutoff wheels. I broke just about every one of them too :mad
After that it was a piece of cake, I painted with some high gloss appliance spraypaint and it looks great!!
In my opinion it was worth the time. Now i am in search of some rubber u-channel molding to finish the look.

You can use door edge guards for the finishing touch. Most door edge guards used at the dealers are attached using double sided tape. Or if you would rather be safe with the cut edges, you can use 1/4 tubing, split it down the middle and cut to fit. Just some cheap ways to finish it off. Plus you can paint those pieces to match and no one will know the better.

I started with a dremel, and learned quickly that that was going to be rediculus. Pulled out the jigsaw, and had it done in less then a minute.

FYI: Dremel makes a heavy duty cut off wheel. They're about 3 times thicker than the "standard" cutoff wheel.
Looks good. Here's the cut one from MAD. You did a great job.

Kevin- with the new spray paint that looks great! Makes me realize how dull the original paint on my lid has become!

Looks good, just need a K&N now to take advantage of all that airflow!

Re: Did a open lid mod tonight (Corvette_Z51)
Go with the Holley Power-Shot airfilter instead. It's supposed to be a step above the K&N in both quality and performance. I plan on trying one myself. $65 from Jegs.

Did mine the same way. Got kind of a cool whistling sound from the engine now. If it was loud enough you would think I was supercharged. :D

Its metal mervz, get a hold of a dremel but get some cutoff discs that are heave duty. The metal is about .062 thick.
Use a high goss appliance enamel to finish. I still needto add a couple more coats of paint tonight and get some u channel trimming to finish it up.
As for the power gain i doubt it is anything but it sounds pretty cool

Good tip. Maybe if I use those I won't have to worry about how the disc fragments fly out at high speed when they break anymore.
