Default CFI vs. TPI Accelerator cable

I have converted my 89 to a carb for various reasons. Most of the wiring was hacked up, and it's a track only car, so I went for simplicity. I am working on hooking up the accelerator cable. I had purchased a cable for an 84-85 CFI engine since it had the "carb" style attachment.

I removed the old cable and was about to install the new one when I noticed that the 84-85 cable doesn't have a plastic cup that fits into the accelerator pedal like the 89. Is the 84-85 missing the plastic cup or is the 84-85 accelerator pedal different? If the pedal is different for cable attachment, does it bolt to the firewall the same. Regardless, I will be in need of the parts to fix this problem.

Any insight is appreciated. Here is a picture showing the difference. The 84-85 cable is at the top, and the 89 is on the bottom.

Ok, thanks for the correction. So is the plasic piece from the 84 missing, or is the 84 accelerator pedal different than TPI cars?

Ok, I found a GM parts page, it shows 84-88 pedals & 89 up pedals, so there is a difference.

Thank you Ex-x-fire.

Does anyone have a picture of the 84-88 accelerator pedals?

I'm gonna disagree that the pedal connections are different.
I use a 89 throttle cable on my 84 and it connected up to the pedals with no problem

So I assume then that the 84 cable that I have is missing the plastic ball socket that is present on the 89?

I just look at my old 84 throttle cable and yes it has the little plastic cup on it. so its safe to assume that someone broke the one on yours off so its no good
