I'm looking for tires for my '85 and I got a quote locally for some Cooper Cobra GTZ's. They're "W" rated and $141 each (245/50R16). I wanted to stick with an American made tire, which leaves only Goodyear (I'd need to remortgage the house!) and Cooper. Do any of you have any experience with Cooper? The car is driven only in the summer, so winter traction is not a concern. Thanks for any advice you can give! :flag
I've never had their performance tires but i've had the passenger car tires a couple of times and had no problems with them. Try thetirerack.com and see what kind of prices and different tires they have. Vette owners on the forum here say good things about Tirerack.
I have been running the Cooper Cobra ZHP01's for 6 months and I am very happy with them. I had the Firestone Firehawks prior to the change and liked them also. I feel the performance is equal. In fact the Cobra's have less road noise when cold than the Firehawk's did. Traction wet or dry is excellent!

Thanks for your input everyone! One other question - My owners manual says I should be running 255/50R16. but the car currently has 245/50R16. Should I be looking to go back to 255 or is 245 OK to stick with? :flag
Have ran Cooper on my LT-1 for several years and have absolutly no complaints. The hold the road well, ride better than the Goodyears, are speed rated, and have excellent tread wear (got 38,000 mile on the last set).
Is it the Cooper Cobra GTZ that you are running? Are you satisfied with the handling? Someone on another website said that because they are "W" rated, the sidewalls are softer and performance suffers. What has your experience been? Thanks for your input!!! :seeya
If you have a PEP Boys in your area, their brand, FUTURA, is made by Cooper. I am on my second set and am very pleased with them. Also, if you buy their road hazzard guarantee, they do not repair the tire, but replace it. If you do a repair on a 'Z' rated tire, it voids the 'Z' rating. I paid just under $600 for the set mounted, balanced, and road hazard. This price is for 255's the 245's they have are 'S' rated and a little bit less expensive.
