Default Help dropped engine not starting

Engine rebuilt, reinstalled. Getting fire but will not start. Car has sat for a year, opti and all was fine before rebuild?? Sounds like it's firing on one cylinder

Check that the spark plug wires are seated properly and are in the correct order at the distributor. Passengers side is 4-6-8-2 (top to bottom) and drivers side is 5-3-7-1 (top to bottom).

Open the throttle plate and shoot some starting fluid into the manifold. Try and start it. If it runs well for a short period you likely have a fuel system issue (pump, filter, injectors, wiring, etc.).

Is the computer storing any diagnostic trouble codes? The link below will tell you how to read them.

The wires are correct, we have yet to use SF. Can a opti spark just go bad from sitting. The car has sat for a year with fuel in it.

Fuel doesn't last forever and goes stale.
Some fresh gas might help

You'd do better to get some facts instead of putting the cast pistons at risk with starting fluid. That crap knocks the dog s*** out of the cans and causes them to break skirts off.
JUst ck pressure,. you need around 40 psi key ON no crank. It needs to hold too.

From there check inj harness with NOID lite or DVM to see if the inj harness is getting a signal.
Work from the results of these basic test.

The engine is holding 40lbs of pressure as the engine spins over. You are the first to not recommend the ole SF.

......... I wouldn't use starting fluid either ... ether ? ... All that hard knocking clatter you hear is self-induced detonation ..... Not the best way to break in a fresh rebuild ..... Multecs have been known to stick when they've been sitting ... have someone crank it over while you tap on the base of the injectors with a screwdriver and SMALL hammer after you've confirmed that they are getting an electrical pulse from the ECM ... a bottle of Techron in the tank will clear the mess after its up and running ..............

Good Optisparks should not go bad from sitting.

Starting fluid is like good whiskey. A little sip is ok, half the bottle in one shot is not. Do not make a habit of it. Moderation is the key. Never use it on engines with pre-heater grids or diesels with glow plugs.

If you are nervous just use an inline spark tester at each cylinder to verify that you have good spark and noid lights at the injectors as the other folks have mentioned

I wish I had a dollar for every time that I've heard this. My other favorite... "the Opti is installed correctly".

9 times out of 10. One of the above is the issue.

Two plug wires crossed or not seated will result in your exact symptoms.

Thanks every one. Gonna double check the sequence, and give it a sip of SG. Supposible these are right. Burnt my right hand up really good so had someone with LT1 (Camaro) exp finish it. Time to recheck everything. Unfortunatly I have always worked on Porsches n Old Zcars. So I really appreciate all the help getting this very loved 93 40th back on the road
