Could be foreign objects in the shifter cavity...When I took my shifter out to clean & grease it, I found a butane lighter, some loose cigarettes, a penlight, lots of change, paperclips, and generally junk stuff down there...
Turn the radio **** to the right or open up the exhaust. Make sure the shifter bolts are tight.
Thats what I do these days. I never heard the ZF making the "normal" noise until I found the exhaust system rubbing against metal parts and the new 3.90 gears. A LOT of drone went away and now I hear a bunch of things. Rock & Roll fixed it all.
thanks so far, umm... it only rattles when it gets over 40ish mph and if i hold it down it wont humm/rattle. it might be objects in it, im not sure i got it in late october. (my 1st corvette and just put a new clutch in it)
When sitting in the driver seat, look at the reverse lockout ring on the shifter, you will see a tiny nylon allen set screw in the lockout ring. Make sure it is snug, but do not over tighten.
