Default All the lights went out while driving
going to work this morning the headlights and all the the instrument lights went out on my 1989. Pushed in the headlight switch **** and pulled it back out and everything lit up again. The digital dash reset as if the battery had been disconnected. The engine never missed a beat during the blackout. Is this a headlight switch replacement only?

Try turning the lights on, then wiggling the switch to see if you can make the lights hiccup.

I will try that, I know the switch has a built in circuit breaker that kicks if the switch overheats, that could have been what happened...I didn't think it would reset the digital dash, trip odometer back to 0.0 just by cutting off the lights, going dark is pretty scary at 70mph....

Change the switch and check the wiring to and from the switch. There is no circuit breaker on the switch.

According to the FSM, there is a circuit breaker.

Every day I learn something here. Before the Vette, all I knew was 9 wires and 4 hoses.

When that happened in my 84 I just thumped the dash and the cluster would light back up. Sold it before I tried to fix it.

Bad ground at battery or connection to frame/ motor.

I had this same issue on my 93
