A friend has an 84 vette that sits more than anything. The battery went dead.He charged it up and tried to start it.It will fire over but not idle. When he tries to give it gas to keep it running it backfires.
I know NOTHING about the crossfire setup and am asking for some ideas I can relay to him to try and resolve the issue.IT ran well before the battery discharged.
FIRST QUICK EASY CHECK IS TO REMOVE AIR CLEANER SO YOU CAN SEE THE THROTTLE BODIES AND INJECTORS. WITH A TIMING LITE LOOK AT THE INJECTORS. THE FLASH OF THE TIMING LITE WILL SHOW THE FUEL SPRAY OUT OF THE INJECTORS. IT SHOULD BE EVEN, MISTY, AND CONE SHAPED SPRAY. IF SPRAY IS UNEVEN OR SPITTING, CHECK FUEL PRESSURE IF I REMEMBER RIGHT IT SHOULD BE LIKE 9 OR 10 LBS. CHECK YOU MANUAL TO BE SURE. GOOD PLACE TO START GOOD LUCK
The crossfire is the same as any other SB. I always get a kick out of, well because its CFI its different. No..not really.
Anyways, fuel pressure should be between 9-13 psi.
Go back to the basics first. Spark and Fuel
Check your fuel pressure first. If you have good pressure then move on to timing, etc.
I would make sure the battery has a full charge. If it was fully discharged, it might have been recharged just enough to start the car but not enough to make the ecm happy. The battery could also be on it's last leg. It ran fine before the dead battery. That is the only thing that has changed.
