Hey guys I have a '93 all stock. And was wandering a good exhaust system that will still pass emission tests. (in Texas) and I'd prefer the mild/deep sounding exhaust. Thanks in advance.
well. i guess i'll start off the pi$$in' contest. first of all, how much money do you want to spend? top of the line system, that is not overly loud, but still has that deep, muscle car tone, and without resonance is the corsa cat back system. a decent on-line price is between $1100-$1200 shipped. careful shopping with a little luck will get you the system for less than $1000. fit, finish, and quality is top shelf. other quality systems are borla, b&b, magnaflow, etc, are pretty popular, but seem to be louder. some guys just like loud - i'm just not one of them - draws too much attention. about 50% of the people here that have purchased these systems, experience resonance at cruising speed - very undesirable. probably the best thing to do is surf the local car cruise-ins and look for corvettes with different systems. most owners will be glad to fire up the car for a listen. you can also see how the system fits the car. some mufflers seem to hang different . over the years, i have purchased 4 corsa systems, so i'm a bit bias.
I say the B&B 2 1/2" system. Just a little louder than the stock system, and has a great muscle car deep tone. No resonance and goes great with my cam.

I had a very early set of the B&B 3" system on my old 92 'vert and I really liked the deep tone but the resonance really sucked when the top was up. The 2.5" system is much better and you can get an X-pipe from them to replace the resonator. The B&B system is very well built and they use heavy gauge stainless pipe that is mandrel bent.
Corsa makes a great-sounding system too. I have the Corsa Indy Pace Car system on my supercharged '02 and this system is very quiet at cruise speeds; I can carry on a conversation at normal tone, I don't have to turn the radio up to cover any exhaust noise. But at WOT, they are LOUD! Which is a good thing....
As far as emissions, cat-back systems will not cause any problems with emissions testing or inspections.
Thanks for the help guys. I decided to post this thread to look at what systems are good and bad I haven't thought to much on price but is gave to say around 1k a lil over maby. Is love to have straight pipes I can't so that's why I'm looking at other options. Once again thanks guys.

There's nothing wrong with the stock LT exhaust system. If you want it louder, delete the muffers and see what you think. Or, delete the cats and deal with possible codes and/or smog.
Not really sure what the previous owner put on my 1992 Coupe, but they are not factory stock.
But... when I am able, it is my intention to replace the entire system with one from Stainless Works.
Everything from their Jet Hot coated LT1 headers and x-pipe with 2.5" pipes and mufflers (mine will have the cat delete).

One thing you can do for cheap is to have the stock mufflers cut off and some straight pieces of pipe welded in and add some tips. The factory cats and the factory resonator will do a decent job of quieting the exhaust note. This is something you can try out before spending a grand on a cat-back system. Might cost all of $50 to try it!
This is a popular subject and is written about all the time. From all the info out there, Corsa and B&B seem to be the most popular. I installed a beautiful Corsa set on a friends 94 and found that it was very quiet most of the time and very nice at WOT. I installed a 3" B&B on my 92 and it was also beautiful. The sound was deeper and did have a little drone at 60 mph, but not enough to kill the deal. Now B&B has a 2 1/2" system and that's the way I'd go if I were to buy a new catback. The tips are really nice looking. Now to muddy the waters for you, I also have a stock system with the mufflers cut off and replaced with Elims and LT1 tips. I love the sound of this set up the best.
