Hey guys, looking to do a 383 build for my 94 LT1. Anybody here have some advice on good engine builders in south west FL. The closer to fort myers the better. May just go with a crate motor as well, not sure yet. Suggestions on that would be most welcome too. Kinda new to a lot of this, got the basics down though. I paid a bit of a premium for my car thinking it would NOT have any problems for a while, but im pretty sure she has suffered from an unseated piston ring....soooo... yeah. Oh well, still a super nice car, and now she will be getting the motor she deserves. Thanks guys, you have always been very helpfull. Looking forward to your advice.
BTW a good crate motor company doesn't have to be local.
really shooting for mid 400's for both hp and torque. If anyone has built, or ordered an engine in this range and are happy with it, feel free to pass along the info of who, what, when where and why. : )
"Search" is your friend. Many of us have posted detailed threads regarding 383 & larger builds.
And searched I have, not only this site, but many others. Now I am looking for updated / current information that may not be readily available via the search function. Thanks for being that guy though, BTW posting something useful probably would have taken the same amount of effort for you...Just saying. Perhaps if you just typed "google it" you would have reached your maximum potential of lazy with a hint of crotchety. Forums are a revolving door of information, both new info and old info is always coming to light. No reason at all for a "Senior Member" to hinder what may be brought to light in almost any thread, but again thank you.

Then from all this searching you would know to start off by providing some basic information...
- How much horsepower
- What is the desired rpm range
- How do you use the car
- What is your budget
- Automatic or 6
- etc
LOL is this Walter Mathow vs Dougie Houser? Hang in there kid, Im not a LT1 guy. Follow Jims lead Im sure you will find what your lookin for here. You might also search Amazon and pic up a few titles specific to LT1s. btw Jim is one of the very knowledgeable guys here.

Local builder - get reccomendations from your local Corvette club.
In Atlanta there are a bunch of them, don't know about your area.
One of the guys in our club has had one shop do two engines (1 street and 1 race)
He had some problems with the street engine and the shop fixed it NO charge.
Tons of good customer service so he had him refresh the race engine.
Mail order crates can be good but as you said, jaa there is something to be said for a good local guy.
Had some issues with my last motor. Wasnt his fault just some bad parts.
He still did a free teardown/inspection charged me minimal machining/blueprint cost and his true cost on parts. Saved me a WHOLE LOT of $
Nice 350 to 385 upgrade for less than 3k with a substantial power gain.
