Default 3000 Stall

I have to pull the Trans AGAIN but this time it for a Leaking Main seal Oh what fun I know.
I was thinking Might as well put a Higher stall convertor in I have a 2500 Stall now behind the 383.
It works but it could use more stall more grunt out the Hole.
I have been thinking of a 3000 Stall but once again what brand to go with.
I want to keep the Lock up Features yes I have a transmission cooler etc. it set up for it already.
I read Vigilante is a good one Yank just to start how is Hughes are they good Convertors I making sure I not going to waste more money AGAIN.
So what Convector do you have how good is it holding up and what brand.

I've used them all except for the Hughes. For 383 use I so like a 3000 and even higher depending on my cam. The only brands that I'd recommend are the Vigilante, Yank and the Edge. The best deal of the three is the Street Edge. For about 550 dollars you get a 9 1/2" converter with balloon plate any stall you want. It won't hurt to call and talk to Andre at Edge. He loves to talk and knows most anything you'll need to know.

I know what you mean about getting the ducks lined up. The new converter will make a nice difference for you. I wouldn't be a bit afraid of a 3200-3600 or so. It may be a better fit with the Trick Flows and cam/headers. Did I see in your sig that you're running 24# injectors with a 383 and a Hot cam? I would have thought that running a 80% duty cycle that they would be a bit on the small side for a 425 HP 383. As a matter of fact, I would have thought that was not possible. I run 36# injectors on my LT1 Impala and I'm using 42# on the Vette engine that I'm building.

I asked FIC about the injector size and Jon said it worlk fine.

As for 3200 or 3600 Stall I kinda scard it a DD street car dont you think that mite be to much stall ???.

All my HP & TQ numbers are off my computer dyno program there some where close to it I would guess.

But I to cheep to put the car on a dyno LOL.

A lot of folks, me included, run bigger stalls on the street. I've not noticed any big differences in transmission temperatures. Once you get to 45 mph or so it locks up so it makes no difference. I do like the sound of a 3600 stall when accelerating and shifting at light throttle. It almost sounds like a CVT.

It's hard to say exactly but if you have a 2500 stall now (It may be more) then a 3500 will probably feel like an extra 50-75 horsepower when you floor it. The stall of a converter is related to the torque of the engine. If your 2500 stall was rated for a 350 making about 330 ft/lbs of torque and you put it in a 383 making maybe 400 then the stall will be higher than 2500. It may be as high as 2800+ or so. The weight of your car also affects stall speed.

I'd make a bet that you'll be really happy with a 3400 on the street. It will feel and be faster. As long as you're getting a new converter this will actually feel like and be free extra power. Your times will get better and you'll like the sound.

You need more gears for the out of the hole grunt with the Hot Cam. I would recomend you go with a mini ram, and gears. It will be a matched combo, and give you a more fun street car.

I can not go with the mini ran Ca smog laws.

As for gears I have thought about them but I want to be beable drive up on the HWY and not be turning 3000 at 70 MPH either.

I use a 9.5 in stall from PeteK, go to him to get a quality piece. I've had his stall for almost 3 years now. No problems. When I put the tranny in this winter that he built I'm going with a 3200 per his recommendation. He's never steered me wrong

You will need to talk with your convertor builder.Stall speed choice will depend on a number of factors....cam,gearing etc. Best to dicuss this with the builder rather than pick a number.

i have the 219 LPE cam / Super Ram and AFR 195, went with a vigilante 3200
and it couldn't be any better, its amazing ! the difference was a lot , i had a 2400 B&M Holeshot and this 3200 Vigilante really made the car sound like a racer ! Now im jumping from 3.07 to a 3.45 D44 to add a little more sotp feel.
A 900 CFM cooler is on its way too to replace the small b&m 70264 cooler

Unfortunetly the dyno programs aren't usually even close to whats really going on when on the street.

Tried using one myself once.. it wasn't even close to when running a real dyno.
