Default Fuel pressure regulator diaphragm

Just discovered the source of a gas leak...

it seems to be seeping from the edge of the regulator between the diaphragms...there are 2 sandwiched under the regulator cap. Its leaking under the cap between the rubber diaphragms? Not into the cap but thru the stem in the rubber.

Has anyone seen this before?

I kinda thought that if it were leaking past the diphragm middle that it would fill the cap and vent out thru the vac port...but its not..it seems to be seeping out around the edges. After pulling the cap off I saw the upper diaphram was rotted (bacon neck) in the center around the plunger that goes thru to the bottom seat surface. There is/was no tear between the 2 rubber layers.

The area that contacted the cap or the regulator bottom was not damaged or rotted. No tears between screw holes.

I'm assuming the leak was getting past that rotted rubber that was separating from the fabric...but wanted to hear if anyone else had a similar failure of the rubber diaphragm?

Its safe to assume that its just another casualty of methanol/ethanol poisoning..

Picking up new one in the morning then reassembling.

Mines brand new with the afpr from tpis and it leaks! New regulator and new hat and it seeps around the edges and I can't figure it out for the life of me. If somone knows why the hell it leaks, tell me. It's been torqued to specs and then leaked, torqued by guessing still leaks, and take it off, well hell of course it leaks.

What keeps the damn thing from leaking. NEW diaphram and NEW regulator hat.......
