Default Engine replacement

Blew my engine in a 86 vette with iron heads and was wondering if that GM good wrench engine for around $1500 would work if I put a computer compatable cam in it. I guess my question is what would work with my stock injection unit without a lot of trouble?

Sorry, but probably not. You need a block that has a 1 piece rear main seal. I'm not sure which one your looking at, but the less expensive ones that I've seen have a 2 pc rear seal.

How bad was the damage to your engine? Maybe you could "freshen it up" for a few hundred.

I got a short block for $500, put my 113 heads on it and I'm Gooood. Had to buy a gasket kit also though.

The 2 piece seal block I would need a different flywheel but far as bolting the motor in I've been told it would just wondered if anyone has done this and could save me some grief.

Don't know the extent of the damage other than the piston skirts in the pan. Haven't pulled the heads yet and engine is still in the car.

When you pulled your motor did you pull it from the side with hood in place or did you take hood off and come out the front?

if you have a 4+3 car you really need to get another 1 piece seal motor to keep from having to buy another flywheel.
goodwrench is a 2 piece seal motor.

that being the case then I dont see why the goodwrench motor wouldnt work. The cam in that motor is milder than the cam in your motor. the heads are the same as your heads, same castings numbers even... both 624's.

the differences in you motor and the goodwrench motor...
goodwrench has a little less compression. same heads but dish piston instead of falt tops.
different cam
2 piece seal
plus the goodwrench will have a regular car oil pan on it but I dont think that will be a problem.
you cant swap pans because the 1 piece seal pan work fit on a 2pc motor.

The 1 piece seal pan and 2 piece seal pan will interchange? Did not know that. I have a 1 piece seal motor on it's way and hope to have the car out of the shop this time next week. Going to take the old motor to an engine builder and see if it can be salvaged and built to stand my supercharger. No supercharge on the replacement motor for now anyway. Hey thanks for your help. Hope there is some good tuners out there that will more than likely be next.
