I don't knwo where you read that but the Hooekrs bolt up, IF you have the right heads. The AFR 190 L98 angle heads work fine. There are lots of people here susing them together. I test fitted mine on my 383 with AFR 190's on the engine stand before I put the headers in on my L98.
AFR sells heads with 3 different spark plug angles. Straight, L98 angle, and AFR proprietary angle. The foot note in the Hooker catalog, refers to the AFR proprietary angle.
These are my new Hooker 2151 and AFR 190 with L98 angle plugs.
Very good access to all spark plugs and the wires are out of the way too.
They were easy to install too. The driver side could go in both from the top and from below. Passenger side went in from below.
It could not be any better!
