Re: Passenger Side Engine Fan don't work? (n1kki6)
I'm working on trying to replace the left one in my car... PITA, see post below. The relays in my '92 are located on the left side of the radiator support, one in front of the other. With the engine on and the AC going (so you know the fans should be on) you can test the relay by removing it and jumping the two thicker wires that plug into the relay. If the fan comes on, the relay is bad. If not, it should be the motor. With everything off, try spinning the fan by hand. Mine makes lots of noise, so I guess one of the bearings is bad. Good luck!
Re: Passenger Side Engine Fan don't work? (n1kki6)
What year do you have? If you have a 90/91 or possibly later, both fans should come on with A/C on, as stated above. If you are proficient with a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) measure the output side of the relay, (large wires) with A/C on, car running, should be the aft relay. If you see 12 volts on both large wires, fan motor is likely bad. It has been my experience, the relays are more reliable than the motor. Fan motors see lots of dust, grime, etc and I was amazed how much stuff surrounded the fan motors when I replaced both last weekend. If you dont have a DVOM, don't want to jumper wires, and the primary fan works, swap relays and see what happens. If the secondary fan works and the primary fan has stopped, relay is the culprit. Suspect its a fan motor. I am assuming 90 or later, not sure about 84-89. Some of these years had an auxillary fan and not sure how they were set up. This system is pretty simple. Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Passenger Side Engine Fan don't work? (n1kki6)
the passenger side fan (secondary fan) does not come on with the A/C. it will come on when the engine gets hot - like 235 degrees? - i would look it up but it is late and the books are in the garage.
Re: Passenger Side Engine Fan don't work? (n1kki6)
If someone has a 94 service manual, check around page 6E3-C12-3 (VIN 8 sections). See if one of the many Secondary Fan "ON" signal criteria is
"A/C fan request signal indicated (Yes-High A/C pressure)"
"Vehicle speed less than 50 mph"
As stated above, the secondary fan will also come on around 235F and depending on several varaibles, cycle based on speed and other criteria.
Looking at the wiring schematics for a 90 and checking the secondary fan relay, using the red probe, (black probe to good ground) back probe the large BLK/RED wire, 12 volts should be there assuming ECM has commanded secondary fan "ON". Please note, large BLK/RED wire should be at terminal A on the relay. Suspect relays for 94 are the same although not betting.
After reading the schematics, looks like one could just move the front connector to the back, start the car, turn on the Air, and the secondary fan should run, assuming it works. But once again, the 94 may be different. Best thing is us the multimeter.
