I'm getting ready to pull the engine and 700R4 on my 88 to have both rebuilt. I have manuals and experience pulling a C3 engine. Does any one have any personal experience on a C4 engine/ 700R4 pull that will save me some headaches?
That's an empty engine bay. I see you have a new aluminum radiator which is why I want to pull the radiator, I want one too. Not afraid of the extra work to take the hood off, I have plenty of time to do this, all winter.
Actually I plan on taking the front and rear bumpers off to replace with the flex style. So if the front bumper needs to go for clearance then it's gone. Next will be a paint job.

The radiator in the picture is a Ron Davis radiator which I adapted to the car. You can see it has both in and out hoses on the passenger side, the cap on the wrong side and required the fabrication of a custom upper shroud. I did this to give me more clearance for an over the radiator intake air bridge. The 84s didn't have enough room over the radiator.
I was just gonna start this same thread. My hood is freshly painted and front end all aligned and didn't want to pull off. Thank God it can pulled from side and for my buddies car lift.
Recently pulled the engine/tranny on my 87--similar to 88? YUP--clearance issues are everywhere. Had to remove belt pulley on crankshaft, hood was already off, exhaust manifolds can hang up, and watch the distributor cap/shaft/rotor. Besure to drain tranny first if you pull engine and tranny together. Used over head beam in shop with chain hoist--this effort was way too much "fun" for this shade-tree mechanic.
Thanks for all responces. Looks to be a fun adventure. I'm just glad it's not a C5/C6. Don't know how I can raise the body off the frame to get at the engine.
If you got a lift, why don't you unbolt the cradle & lift the body off of the engine/trans/cradle assembly? Thats how they go together at the plant. I did a 4th gen camaro engine that way, probably the only way on those, it wasn't bad at all.
