Is the oem rev limiter on my '90 good enough to use as a failsafe? I don't plan on ever using it but can it be used to keep the engine from blowing up on a missed shift or in case something in the drivetrain breaks? I heard the OEM rev limiter was no good and that is why gm set it to 10000 RPM from the factory.
I have been bouncing off the limiter on mine since this new combo revs so fast. No trouble and it works well. I don't believe it can help with a missed shift though, that is mechanically coupled.

Thanks! I will give it a try then. By missed shift I meant me not getting in gear and then nailing the throttle. It has never happened but I wanted to know just in case. Same thing in case the clutch blows or I brake an axle while my foot is on the floor. I have my life savings in this motor and I dont want to lose it because of something stupid!
Oh yeah, it will work well then. I miss shifted, and accidentally downshifted. Thought the engine would be gone but it's still okay. Try to keep the off and on limit about 50 difference.
