Power steering pump noise while idle
I suddenly gotten a noise coming from the engine bay that kinda sounds like the water pump going out. I took off the belt the other night and spun all the pulleys and noticed a metallic scrape noise comes from the power steering pump. Everything else acted tight, snug and was quiet. It doesn't sound like a pump low on fluid, kinda sounds like a bearing going out. No leaks, just some noise. Will changing the fluid help quiet this? or is there something else to add? Or is it time to replace the pump? 130K, orginal as far as I know, but it does have a new rack from a previous owner.

Well, I don't know if I have the same noise as you but it sounds like it. It is only noticeable at idle / low rpm's... Here is what I have tried:
1. New fluid..
2. Changed shaft bearing on pump..
No help :confused:
Ordered a new pump today ....
Let me know if you find a solution to this

Thanks I will, I'm going to give it another week then order a replacement pump too. If you get yours and it fixes it, let me know. I'll post my results too.
