I thought I was going to go with an off-the-shelf modern TBI EFI system like the about-to-be-released Holley Sniper EFI, BUT port EFI with a modern designed-for-air intake system and the extra fuel economy AND torque is calling my name all of a sudden...

depending on your budget you could look at this.

The motor build is a ways off but I have started collecting pieces. I have the Arizona Speed and Marine large diameter long tube runners, the Scoggins/Dickey Vortec/TPI lower manifold, a set of mercury marine vortec heads, EBL computer, throttle cable & pedal, fuel rails, distributor, wiring harness, plenum and throttle body.

OP, I think you're looking at the wrong motor. If you criteria are the most efficient 325-350hp motor, and 6000 RPM rev range, the TPI isn't it. The LT1 is more efficient and has a much broader rev range. Even better would be a 5.3 Gen III engine.

I've already bought a lot of the TPI/Vortec parts so I won't be changing my mind now.

I'm patterning my build after this one. This Vortec/TPI motor produced good power up to about 6000 rpm

What is the horsepower rating and at what RPM?
What is the rpm range where it produces best power?
What kind of distributor would it need and would that be compatible with my L82?
*Complete engine, harness and ECM
*300 HP at 5000 RPM, Rev limiter @5850

*It uses the "optispark" distributor and not sure what you mean by compatible since your removing the L82 entirely.

This sounds like a pretty cool project! I have always admired the look of the tuned port's runners... Almost spider like!

I'm currently in the middle of a restoration involving a 1975 C3 Stingray that includes a conversion to a fuel injected LT1 (G2) engine. It's a LOT of work and we have already been thru two LT1 parts cars to gather up the parts. Looks like we might even have to pick up a C4 parts mule with the LT1 for all the brackets and such to make it look authentic.

Keep up the good work!

If money were no object, I'd go for this: https://www.firstfuelinjection.com/services.html

*DROOL*

I'm guessing that there's no way in @#$#@ this will fit under a mid-rise C3 hood...

The LT1 intake can be massively hacked to be used on a gen1 SBC, but it's a serious undertaking. You have to cut a hole in it for the distributor AND get a spacer to angle it correctly, THEN drill new mounting holes AND run the coolant to an external pump...

There's a place that will convert one for you, but it just doesn't seem worth it especially given Priya's fuel economy goals. The stock TPI or slightly hacked TPI manifold would focus on fuel economy improving low to mid end torque more, right?

From what I have herd it will fit under a C4 hood, but they machine it down a little when you order it, I have no idea if it will fit under a C3.

Wow, I just now noticed this. I agree, performance characteristics-wise it seems like the best option available.

No idea if it could possibly fit under a C3 mid-rise hood, though.

You forgot the link; I found an old website / blog where a guy put a F.I.R.S.T intake on a 1982 but can't find it right now...
Update: I found the link! http://noel.prodigitalsoftware.com/NCtpi.html

My problem is that "first" is about the worst search term, EVER; these guys should've named it something else to make it searchable...

Maybe in theory, but the LT1 typically gets better gas mileage than a TPI. Doesn't matter; sounds like the OP already bought his intake parts.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents here. That's a whole lotta mods all at once for any one trying it their first time. My advice is to just install one mod at a time then get the car running stable. Try the intake swap first or maybe just the ECM before really opening the motor up. You may find all your mistakes - and we make mistakes - can stack up against you.

Good luck Pyria and congrats on choosing a unique build. I think it will be peaky but fun to drive.

Victor E is a port injected manifold that bolt directly to your engine and with the correct TB would package just like your Q-jet. I run one of them on my Super Stock motor and it is good out beyond the current operating speed of a stock L82. Any aftermarket fuel injection system will work. I prefer the FAST injection that I have used for over 15 years. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
I by the way can probably help you with any FAST fuel injection questions.
