changed alternator this weekend
The voltage had been reading over 15 volts on the instrument panel and the battery light had been flickering, and the bearings were complaining.
I got a real good deal on a new Bosch alternator from Amazon, $130, no shipping charge, received in 2 days.
This should have been a 15 minute job but the 3-wire connector disentigrated into powder and the battery terminal was broken. I stuck the individual terminals onto the posts until I can get a new connector this Friday. $13 also at Amazon. 2 different terminals are listed for my 93, AC Delco PT2297 (from $13-$30) and PT1742 ($35-$75). Wells shows its replacement connector as replacing both of these numbers. The shape of the two connectors is slightly different but not where the terminals are or where it contacts the alternator ao I bought the $13 version.
I soldered a new terminal onto the battery wire and now I get a constant 14.7 volts and no squeal. I think the car runs better, too.
