Can you still drive your car with the electronic dash out of the car? I have a problem with my dash where the turn signal lights stay on and the dash does not light up. I placed a post here and recieved a couple real good replys, unfortunately I was not able to correct the problem by adding a new ground. Considering sending the dash out to be repaired. Problem is the car is my daily driver. Anyone know any reputable places to send dash to that will check it out for a problem, rather than just charge me whether there is a problem with the dash or I still have a ground problem.
you still have some type of dash ground problem somewhere, if you didnt find it in the dash unit then its in the engine somewhere and its come loose. I dont see any reason why you CANT drive w/o the unit, but its sure not smart. Have you replaced light bulbs in it as well? Did you resolder anything?
have added a wire to the black and white ground wire in the dash harness, Checked the ground circuit using a olhm meter found it was a good circuit, added the wire anyhow, found the ground strap was still connected to body and engine. Not having any luck figuring this thing out. Everthing works on the dash except the light to see it. And the turn signal indicators are on.
First it would help us to know what year car you have. Most likely you have an unsoldered pin that carries current to the lamps. There are 2 circuit boards that make up the cluster and they have a single row of pins that plug into each other. The socket on the front board has a leaf spring that relaxes with age and makes a resistance connection to the pin and the high lamp current causes heat in that pin and it gets so hot that it unsolders the pin on the lower board. Resoldering will not fix this problem and it is difficult finding a socket, so, when it happened to me, I soldered a short insulated hookup wire from the pin to the socket and this problem will never happen again.
