Yesterday I started polishing my wheels. I used a car polisher with a wool buff and white rouge (spl). I didn't sand them or stip them, I was surprized with the outcome. Here's some photos before and after.
If you didn't strip them, how did you manage to get through the clear coat
The reason I am asking is because I am considering polishing my 95 saw blades. I would like to avoid using a stripper to remove the clear coat because I don't want to damage any of the painted portions of the wheel. All I want to do is polish the unpainted surfaces.

Keep going Jimbo...they'll look awsome when you're finished...but I agree with Kizmo, how did you get through the clear coat? Is your buffer/rag black...if so you got through, if not you're still dealing with the clear coat. I went to a bodyshop supply shop and bought some of their paint stripper and then put the boots to them with the polisher...
To me there's nothing nicer than a polished aluminum rim but Oh   the endless hours of upkeep...but it just takes 1 or 2 people to throw you a compliment at your local cruise night and you're hooked for life...good luck...looking forward to seeing pics of the car with the rims done
I didn't want to remove the clearcoat on my 85 wheels so I started last summer with some wax "Wenol" which I bought at Carlisle. What an unbelieveable job it does! Takes a lot of elbow grease but the results are well worth it. They stay clean longer and clean up easier as well. I can send you some info if you wish. I tried to take some before and after pix without too much success. Too much glare after they were done!
Actually, I don't think there was clear coat on them. The buff turn black almost instantly, maybe they were polished at one time before.
I have to get some smaller buffs to get the outside of the rims, and the inside by the lugnuts. Will post photos after all is done.

Thanks.
Which part is painted? My '93 and '95 rims have no painted areas onthem

On my 94 any area past the flat machined face is painted silver (all the scallop areas, etc. are silver). Don't think I've ever seen them without paint unless they were stripped once.
