Im about to service my tranny tomorrow and have already done a search on various threads. From what I remember there are 2 square plugs on the passenger side of the tranny-which ones for the OD and which is for the tranny? Im assuming these are the fill ports?
The drain plug on the 4-speed is on the right side at the bottom. The fill plug is part way up the case. Make sure you can remove the fill plug before draining the gear oil. If the fill plug won't come out and you drain the gear oil, there is going to be a problem....
The fill plug for the OD unit is on the left side to the rear of the solenoid. You will need a fluid pump to get the fluid in.
If you can, remove both of the fluid lines on the right side of the OD unit and use low pressure air to blow out the fluid that is in the lines and cooler pipe. Reattach the lines and fill the OD unit. With the rear wheels in the air and the engine off, spin a rear wheel for a couple minutes. This will push fluid back through the lines. Keep adding ATF as necessary. This may require an extra pint of ATF to flush and refill the lines.
the previous owner of my vette tried to get the plugs out and buggered them all up, does anyone know what size they are so I can use an 8 point socket on them again?
Just did this a few hours ago-I used a 7/16 box end wrench and luckily mine came off without much trouble. This was for the OD plug-Ill have to check to see if the 4 spd portion is the same size.
The Super T-10 tranny takes 2.2 pints of gear oil; the OD unit takes 3.4 pints of ATF fluid. The OD unit fill plug is on the rear left hand side (see attached photo) and the T-10 drain & fill plugs are on the right side of the transmission (upper plug is the fill hole and the lower plug is the drain plug)
