Default Sensor/switch on pass side between rear sparkplugs

RE: 1985 L98

I have a new used car and I was changing the sparkplugs and the wire connector cap crumbled. Then I looked and it was the top of the sensor or switch or whatever.

I looked in the book and I couldnt find the info.

Does anyone know off the top of their head - the name of sensor. It had a single wire on it. It was located on the passenger side of the engine right there between the two rear sparkplugs.

What is that thing? Is it the knock sensor?

I think the book shows the sensor up in the front as the coolant temp sensor. I'll check that again.

Thanks

Why would the oil temp sensor be in the head that only has coolant passages ?????????

Oil temp sensor is in the block above the oil filter

Knock sensor is in the block ;directly below the sensor in the head you are talking about

I second coolant temp sensor. Take the wire off the sensor, touch it to the block and look at your dash. I think you will see that the coolant temp now reads 299. If not then its something else. My coolant temp sensor is in the block between 2 and 4. Pass side (or maybe that's 3and 5...)

Reason I know is my dip stick will sometimes wiggle and turn and hit it. Then I freak out for a split second when I see coolant go to 299.

Rod, that's a good link. Thank you.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the input. I'm trying to change my technique from "throwing money at the problem" to finding the problem and then buying "the right" parts. All this help gets me pointed in the right direction.

Thanks again
Tim

Throwing parts at a problem can get expensive real fast, especially when your dealing with a Corvette....WW
