Same procedure on the '89. I actually gave my '94 stock pump that was working fine to a buddy that put it in his '89.
The baffle in the tank consists of a 8x10x3" platic tray in the bottom of the tank. I am sure there is major room for improvement on the design, but you would have to take the tank out and open it up to make any decent upgrades.
