Default Steering colum disassembly question

I am replacing the blinker pivot switch in an 85, I'm stuck at the C clip. How do I get the C clip out? It is being held in by the plastic horn contact insulators (think that is what they are) Thanks for any help. I'm waiting on my service manual to arrive in the mail.

i just did this on my 93 Corvette, i think yours will be similar. You need to remove
the lock plate which is retained at its center with a spring clip, but the plate itself is under spring tension. The easiest way to remove the lock plate is with this special Lock Plate Removal Tool, but you can fabricate something easily. Check out this link.

when i was younger and stronger i was able to remove and install the c clip by pushing in on the ring in the column while a helper removed the c clip with a small screwdriver. it doesnt take much movement to get the pressure off
